Pollyanna was born in 1984 and is a 32 year old grey mare donkey standing at 10.3 hands. She was rescued from Salisbury Market (Horse Sales) in March 1997. She was in a very bad condition and could possibly have gone on for slaughter from the market. Because of the lack of care from her previous owner, Pollyanne’s hooves had become badly overgrown, misshapen and painful. Following a course of remedial work by our farrier, Pollyanne’s hooves no longer trouble her.
Today, Pollyanne is in a fine condition. She is also popular at the many steam rallies, fetes and carnivals we attend, due to her very good nature and love of children.
Pollyanne seems to get out more often than many of her friends as she takes part in many Church services, regularly attending services at Christmas and on Palm Sunday where she leads a procession through the nearby town of Wantage. Pollyanne has been doing this for several years and always behaves herself in Church, standing quietly by the altar and not braying during the hymns or prayers! She has also had the honour of appearing on stage with Placido Domingo at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
